Personal Effectiveness and Leadership

Our Aim - Personal Effectiveness and Leadership

Our definition of Leader: a person engaged in shaping their future regardless of their formal position or level in a corporate structure.

In the fast changing world of the 21st century, leaders have to deal with challenges and risks that they have not experienced in the past. More importantly, they have to react and respond by making choices, to these challenges and risks, faster than before.

In making these choices, leaders of today therefore need to:

  • Be perceptive and use their perception to steer the business and its people in the right direction
  • Use their perception to influence and inspire others
  • Be accountable to themselves and others for the benefit of the organisation and its people

In the increasingly globalised world, leaders are needing to go beyond the 'norm' in dealing with the changing environment. In all these dealings the one thing that remains a common denominator is the leader; and their ability to manage these changing enviroments by deriving alternatives or options, becomes key. Furthermore, organisations have to rely on the personal leadership of individuals at all levels of the corporate structure.

Default Settings

Deriving these options depends on the leaders heightened levels of self awareness. At Options and Choices our approach is unique. We work with leaders at the deeper levels of self awareness by learning and deciphering their individual Default Settings to enhance their leadership and personal effectiveness.

A leader tends to rely on his/her natural preferences when deriving options in any given situation. However, there is a danger in allowing their natural preferences to dictate the decision making process instead of going by what is best for a given situation. This leads to a tendency to default to our preferences without really understanding what we are doing. Leading effectively is being able to question if a certain decision or choice is best for a given situation. To do this, we need to determine and understand our Default Settings.

Our Default Settings determines who we are and how we manage ourselves in various situations such as decision making, leading and collaborating, conflict management, crucial conversations. It forms the core of how we perform: our effectiveness.
